What is a good & free design software?

I’m looking to arrange my living room and I usually just do paper and pen, but I figure I’d try one of those 3D design software programs I see on HGTV and stuff. Are there any good free ones?
Which is the best CAD software for amateur students?

We currently use TechSoft 2D design at school and I have it at home but only a student copy I bought from school (so certain things are locked such as print etc)
What other programs could I buy/try?
Are there any free ones?
Btw if it wasnt already obvious, I am looking for 2D CAD programs, or one that does both 3D and 2D

Room Designing Tool?

Is there a piece of software I can install that will help me design a room? I know there are a lot of free ones on websites, but one of things I don’t like about them is that there’s no way to save your settings.
I’ve just measured out all the dimensions of my bathroom, and I’d like to save that somewhere. Any ideas?
I don’t mind if it’s free or costs money.
Cheers!
